COSTA BLANCA CLIMBING
ALL SPANISH ROCK CLIMBING AND MOUNTAINEERING IS ON HOLD UNTIL OCTOBER 2021
Our Spring Spanish climbing holidays focus on Costa Blanca Climbing, as here there is a wide variety of activities including the Costa Blanca Ridges, roadside sport climbing, sea cliff climbing, canyoning and trail running.
As Spain has the perfect mix of good weather and copious amounts of rock, it’s no wonder some of the world’s best rock climbers call the country their home. Famous for short steep and very difficult rock climbs it is easy to cast over the quantity of mountaineering and easy sport climbing that Spain has to offer.
Travel to the Costa Blanca is easy and cheap, there are accommodation options to suit all budgets and there are no language barriers in this region of Spain. For climbers and mountaineers looking for an adventure holiday that has better weather than the Alps and is much lighter on the wallet, Costa Blanca Climbing could be just the ticket.
DARE TO EXPERIENCE ADVENTURE
Costa Blanca Ridges
Imagine the Skye Cuillin Ridge in your shorts, trainers, t-shirts, shades and a minimalist rucksack! The Costa Blanca Ridges cater for mountaineering at all levels, if you don’t mind carrying sun cream instead of waterproofs these ridges are for you.
There are many great ridges in the Costa Blanca, our guides have done a lot of them so will know where to suggest on each day. Classics such as Bernia and Segaria will be mixed in with shorter more technical outings like Espolón Central and Cresta Del Benicadell. There are also very long multi-day outings such as the El Realat, but it is also possible to complete shorter sections of El Realat just like Skye’s Cuillin Ridge.
When the weather is just too hot, we go down instead of up and make our way to the caves of the Barranco del Infierno or check out some shaded sport climbing by the sea.

Steve was incredibly knowledgeable and knew just how far to push us within safe limits. We had two wonderful days in the mountains and now have a lot more confidence tackling Winter climbs. We also received excellent guidance on kit / diet / route-planning which will be taken forward on future expeditions. I could not recommend Synergy Guides any more highly!Jacob12/22/2019
I booked Steve to climb Ben Nevis by the Tower Ridge route & what a day!
I have never been challenged as much as I was that day & Steve made it all possible.
It was suppose to be a climb under summer conditions but winter was clinging on & Steve found himself instructing a novice in the use of crampons & an axe whilst also guiding me along the route.
He did an impressive job & instilled confidence in myself which allowed me to climb rock in crampons, walk across icy ridges & even climb ice to reach the summit.
Steve is a friendly, calm, positive & encouraging person who is very skilled in mountain arena & I cannot rate Steve enough.
I would highly recommend him for your adventure in the mountains.Marie Skinner5/24/2015
I had a couple of days of private guiding last week with Steve from Synergy Guides. Ice climbing conditions were not great so we had a day at Polldubh rock climbing and an indoor instruction session at the Ice Factor. At Polldubh the crags were just drying and Steve was able to choose a selection of routes to suit my level which were in condition. The highlight was Secretaries Direct, superb slab climbing. I have climbed with Steve several times before and always found him to be a safe and reliable guide who helps me get the best out of my climbing. Highly recommended.Neil Sandilands4/21/2019
We climbed the Cuillin Traverse. Our guide Iain Murray was a friendly experienced hand, who lead us safely through a fantastic experience. Steve Holmes prepared us perfectly for the expedition, providing advice and guidance before we set off. Highly recommended.Alan Segrott5/20/2021
Just back from two days as one of 3 beginners with Steve from Synergy Guides going over basic winter mountaineering skills including completing winter routes on Stob Coire Nan Lochan and Ben Nevis. It was an amazingly fun and informative weekend that I'll not forget and I've walked away feeling confident that I could tackle more winter routes and continue to improve on the skills we developed over the last two days.Steve is incredibly knowledgeable, enthusiastic and also patient. He struck a perfect balance of teaching and challenge/excitement for a group of almost novices. Each route felt considered and safe and his directions were always clear and easily understood. I would definitely use Synergy again!Catherine McCutcheon4/21/2019
Had an amazing time bagging the Innaccessible Pinnacle and Sgurr Na Banachdaich a couple of weeks ago with Steve and Caspar. We had an amazing day for it and they managed to get all 6 of us up and over in one piece (despite a few of us being nervous). I would 100% recommend getting a guide for the Cuillins as they are a completely different beast from the majority of Munros. We'll be back to tick a few more of the list and will definitely be booking with Synergy Guides again!Jamie Christie8/20/2020
The perfect guide 🙂Hero Douglas5/10/2020
We completed the Cuillins with Steve, and had an amazing time. He is a great friendly guide, and knows the mountains and his craft so well, that we felt really comfortable up in the mountains. I'd definitely book further climbing days with Synergy, and cannot recommend them highly enough.Clare Dickson8/17/2020
Me and my dad had an incredible day climbing tower ridge with Steve. Although my dad was a bit nervous at first, with Steve’s clam and clear guidance he was soon climbing with no fear at all and by the time we got to the summit we wanted to do it all over again. Thanks for an amazing day and we’ll definitely be back.onlyhereforthebanter8/20/2020
Absolutely fantastic experience climbing with Synergy in Glen Coe for 3 days. Really well planned and executed by our brilliant guide who showed us all the essentials before taking us up some pretty challenging routes, which is what we asked for. Our guide was very experienced and we never felt at risk, and great company. Would highly recommend to anyone looking for a winter adventure.Rory Calderwood3/01/2020
I spent two fantastic days with Steve and enjoyed every minute. The weather wasn’t on our side but Steve made sure we made the most of it and tailored our experience to suit the conditions. Clearly a professional in his field and a genuinely nice guy. If you’re a budding or experienced climber, I would highly recommend Synergy guides for a fantastic experience whatever the weather.Karl Henshaw2/01/2020
If you want cracking day/days out then Steve is your man.His understanding and knowledge of the mountains is second to none and is always keen to teach many different aspects.
The tick list is there to do but Steve will introduce you to something “off piste”
and take you on that new journey!
I’ll be back for more that’s for sure, testament to his great work.Marc Robertson5/05/2020
Had a fantastic 2 days climbing with Steve. I chose to keep my booking despite the poor weather and didn’t regret it. What I was looking for was to focus more on learning skills and techniques and Steve catered the 2 days to exactly that. Anyone who is serious about learning mountaineering/climbing I highly recommend this place!Damo G12/12/2019
Yesterday 6 of us tackled the Inn Pinn on Skye with Steve and Casper from Synergy guides. They were totally brilliant and kept us in good humour the whole way. Steve roped me up the Inn Pinn, I was so terrified beforehand but he was so nice and chilled out it really kept me calm(er). Really pleased to have managed it, it was a fantastic day. Steve and Casper are a great laugh too. The Skye munros are tough, we went over another after the Inn Pinn and even with the amazing weather, I was really glad we had the guides for that too as it was tough terrain and it would have been hard to find a safe path without them. I'd really recommend hiring Synergy to guide you in the Cuillins. Thanks guys!Katie Mullen8/10/2020
I’ve been out with Steve Holmes quite a few times and would strongly recommend him as your guide. His sole aim is to give you a great day out. He is an excellent judge of where to go for the conditions, weather and your ability. On the hill, he is ever alert to your safety and also offers good coaching tips. He is such a good climber that I always feel he is completely on top of everything. Importantly, too, he is great company and full of enthusiasm, whatever the weather.
I am now in my early seventies, and prone to angina, so the qualities above are very important to me. Steve makes sure that associate guides working for Synergy meet the same standards. Through Synergy I’ve had wonderful days on winter routes at III to V in standard.David Wilson5/27/2020
Trail running is really popular in Spain. The trails are hard-packed, fast and dusty making them allot of fun. Multi activity trips to Spain are right up our street and provide a cheaper alternative to a big overseas expedition.
Costa Blanca is a sport climbing mecca. There is an incredible amount of rock climbing, mostly on limestone and unlike northern Spain, the rock is less steep and so better suited to beginner / intermediate climbers. This makes climbing in Costa Blanca the most suitable region in Spain to learn to rock climb or improve your technique to become a better sport climber.
Having spent many weeks and months climbing and living in Spain, Synergy Guides believe we can offer you great variety and expertise on your next Costa Blanca Climbing holiday.
