CLIMB BEN NEVIS

Standing at a height of 1345 meters above sea level Ben Nevis is the highest mountain in the United Kingdom. It has many routes to its summit, but the most common way to climb Ben Nevis is via the ‘mountain path’ which journeys up the western flank from Glen Nevis.

Synergy Guides prefer a quieter and more exciting ascent via the spectacular North face. Here climbers and walkers can travel through simple technical terrain via Ledge Route, or alternatively test your head for heights on one of the classic ridges such as Tower Ridge or Castle Ridge.

Not quite what you are looking for? why not hire a Ben Nevis guide and choose amongst the hundreds of ways to climb ‘the Ben.’

Tower Ridge - Ben Nevis

Why not challenge yourself to one of Scotlands most iconic mountain routes and climb Ben Nevis the hard way? The highlight of its imposing North Face is Tower Ridge, which needs little introduction to hillwalkers and climbers alike. It has been the scene of many epic tales the majority of which culminate around the crux of the route; Tower Gap which guards the way to the summit plateau. It should be better known as one of Scotland’s prize mountaineering routes, one of the longest in the United Kingdom and the centrepiece of the spectacular North Face. In our opinion, Tower Ridge is the best way to reach the summit of Ben Nevis!

Castle Ridge - Ben Nevis

Castle Ridge is the least technical of the ‘great ridges’. That’s not to say it is an easy way to climb Ben Nevis however, as the route climbs short steep steps of moderate ground with plenty of really enjoyable grade 2 scrambling in-between. The hardest section of Castle Ridge is a lovely 10-meter chimney that overlooks our now distant approach path – it really is one of the best routes on the mountain.

Castle Ridge boasts similarities to climbing Tower Ridge but with less commitment and a slightly shorter approach. For these reasons, we suggest Castle Ridge as a brilliant initiation to high end scrambling on the North face and a good introduction to technical Scottish winter climbing.

Ledge Route - Ben Nevis

It is a common mistake to think the North face only entertains hardcore climbers. The best of the easy scrambles on Ben Nevis is via Ledge Route which winds its way through the most spectacular scenery culminating in a narrow but very short ‘ledge’ which gives the route its name. It is a popular Scottish winter climb, but you will seldom see many people here even on the most beautiful summer days. For anyone looking for a challenging but easy route to the summit of Ben Nevis, Ledge Route is the one for you.
